2024 Letter from the President

Dear NASCI Members,

I hope this letter finds you well as spring finds itself right around the corner.

I would like to take the opportunity to provide you with a mid-year update on the activities of the society since last September’s very successful meeting in Scottsdale, Arizona.

I am happy to report that 45 members volunteered to serve on a committee and all have received an appointment.

International Journal of Cardiovascular Imaging

We thank Professor Hans Reiber, for his service and welcome Dr. Christoph Gräni as the new Editor-in-Chief for our journal. As you know, NASCI members have free access to the journal. As part of our renewed contract, members will receive the Table of Contents on a monthly basis. You may unsubscribe from this notification.

The Publications and Guidelines Committee nominated a NASCI representative, Vice Chair, Dr. Bradley Allen to the editorial board.

The Education Committee has successfully streamlined the submission process for Case of the Month to make it easier for authors to contribute their valuable insights and cases.

Publications and Guidelines

Under the guidance of the new Chair, Dr. Kate Hanneman and Vice Chair, Dr. Brad Allen, the committee welcomed several new committee members. The committee has several active working groups for NASCI-led publications including a white paper on imaging in patients with Fontan circulations, a guideline on vascular imaging for transcatheter and minimally invasive cardiac surgical procedures, and a review on cardiac chamber quantification. Recent publications led by the committee include a commentary on cardiac CT terminology and a commentary on the 2022 ACC/AHA Aortic Guidelines. Other committee activities include the establishment of standard operating procedures for participation in multi-society statements and guidelines.

Education

The committee led by Chair, Dr. Jonathon Revels and Vice Chair, Dr. Shaimaa Fadl has been extremely active again this year. In their commitment towards continued growth and success of NASCI’s educational initiatives, new leaders within the committee were appointed to bring fresh perspectives and drive our objectives forward:

1. Dr. Satinder Singh – Head of NASCI Trainee Resources, to enrich the resources available to our trainees, ensuring they have the best tools and knowledge at their disposal.
2. Dr. Romina D’souza – NASCI Curriculum, to further develop our society’s curriculum to meet the evolving needs of cardiovascular imaging professionals.
3. Dr. Arzu Canan – NASCI Teaching Files will be expanded, providing an invaluable resource for continuous learning.

Education and Electronic Communications

Curious Cases Monthly Webinar: We are thrilled to announce the Education Committee is forming a subcommittee to facilitate the “Curious Cases Monthly Webinars”, with assistance from the Electronic Communications Committee. We thank Dr. Jacobo Kirsch for spearheading the development of these monthly webinars, and we look forward to his invaluable guidance in an advisory capacity moving forward. This initiative promises to continue the success of this engaging platform where intriguing and challenging cardiovascular imaging cases are presented and reviewed.

Advocacy
Under Dr. Albert Hsiao’s guidance, the committee is meeting in the near future to write their first Advocacy manuscript. We’ll keep you posted!

Program
I am pleased to announce Dr. Jonathan Revels has accepted the position of Program Committee Vice-chair, working alongside Program Chair, Dr. Cristina Fuss and Co-chair, Dr. Patricia Mergo. The Program Committee chairs and committee members are in in the midst of building an exciting program for our next Annual Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts this coming September. We received a record number of submissions for our Call for Topics. Thank you for your continued engagement! We are now accepting Case of the Day submissions, with a deadline of April 1. Learn more about Case of the Day here. Abstract submissions are also open and are due Friday, May 3. Visit the NASCI website for Abstract Submission Guidelines and to submit an abstract. Faculty are encouraged to make sure their trainees know about these opportunities!

Grants
The call for Seed and Educational grant applications will go out in mid-March.

ESCR/NASCI Collaboration
We are excited to announce a new Webinar collaboration with the European Society of Cardiovascular Radiology. Our first webinar will take place in June and will focus on Mitral Valve Disease. Stay tuned for the announcement in the coming month. We hope to further our relationship with the ESCR with ongoing joint webinars and publications.
